Solar Thermal Controller of the Future

Posted on August 14, 2019

How much energy does a solar thermal system create? How can you measure it? What happens if there is a malfunction and youget to see it after the damage is done?

These days we are used to installing solar photo-voltaic panels in the roof and by a simple application on your smartphone you canknow for sure how much energy your panels are putting in and what ROI (return on investment) it has created. In the case of solar thermal systems, it is not custom to have a monitoring device. Nobody knows how much energy they are gathering or how much they are spending on heating. No one knows if the system is working properly. We are trying to reverse things on this issue with our smart device called Temperature Differential Controller.

Temperature Differential Controller (TDC)

There are a lot of this devices in the market, some are called Differential Controllers, some are called SolarWater Heaters. Even though they do almost the same things they are focused on special fields of different sectors. In contrast this device is trying to be as flexible as possible. You can use it as:

  • Solar Water Heater, Solar Pool Heater

  • Thermostat

  • Temperature monitor

  • General purpose On/Off switch

  • Anything that has to do with controlling temperatures…

The intent of the TDC is to have a temperature controller that is compact and adapt for industrial installationcabinets (DIN Rail equipment racks). It has a lot of features such as protections against overheating, freezing, seizing etc. and a detailed menu for controlling most of the complex hydraulic systems in the heating field. Equipped with 3 Relays and 4 sensors that can be PT1000 or NTC it gives to a technician a bigger window of installing it as needed.

Online Dashboard

The above features are not the only one that make this device be distinguished from the others. By integrating aWi-Fi module, you can have this device controlled and monitored online via our dashboard on things.al website. Every single feature of the device is editable from the online dashboard too. But the biggest difference from the other devices in the market is the data gathered.

By looking at the graphics of the temperatures and the times that the relays have been ON, you can accuratelyunderstand how the thermal system is working, how much heat is gathering, how much is consuming and more. You can fully evaluate if your system was worth installing by calculating the ROI.

Things.al App and Push Notifications

In commercial installations typically offices or hotels it is mandatory to have always hot water. When a problemoccurs, there is no time to wait for the next day to have a solution. You cannot wait to see it by checking on the water tap if there is hot water available.

For this purpose via our application on smartphones or tablets you can have real-time notifications that can betriggered in different events such as low or high temperatures, or other malfunctions caused by i.e. power outage.
